Is McDonald's Safe To Eat While Pregnant? | BellyBellyCan I eat McDonalds Whilst Pregnant? Full menu GuideLast update on January 2, 2020 McDonald menu poses a difficult option for pregnant women, including the question of whether you should eat "butter food". Whatever the reason is: a craving, a children's birthday party or a simple comfort in a day when it's the nearest restaurant, pregnant women should know what they can and can't eat at Mcdonald (or Macca's, as some call it). Can I eat Mcdonalds Whilst Pregnant? There are many items in the McDonalds menu that contain ingredients that are safe for pregnant women. However, processed food is never a great choice in pregnancy. You will have to ensure that your order is cooked fresh, and also adapt it by avoiding some ingredients. Chopped and processed foods contain high amounts of sugar, fat, salt and calories, all of which should be avoided during pregnancy. Just say, keep the consumption of junk food as low as you can when you're pregnant. However, I've heard from many women that this is not just about cravings or just "wanting a burger," but sometimes fast food is the only thing that can "maintain" when they experience severe nausea. Instead of blaming women about eating fast food, I have tried to gather a guide on which Mcdonald's articles are safe, that food is the healthiest choices, and that they should be avoided. Since the McDonald menu can change from time to time and is different in many countries, I have broken down options for the most widely available items, and those that cause pregnant women the greatest concern. Also highlights the healthiest element of each category: Covered in this article:McDonalds Breakfast items – Eat McMuffins, Griddles, Biscuits or Bagels in PregnancyMcDonald's Burgers, Chicken nuggets, Wraps and Sandwiches in Pregnancy Eat the Frios, Snacks and McDonald's Sitting Sidalds You may be surprised to learn that all pre-packaged and pre-prepared salads, fruits and vegetables should be avoided in pregnancy. This means McDonald's or any other restaurant salad, too. Sounds weird because you're in McDonald's and you're being good at choosing a salad or some fruit, right? Unfortunately, in this case, the healthiest choice is not the safest. Pre-packaged and pre-prepared salads can be a listeria source. Salt bars (the type of self-service that is seen in restaurants or some supermarkets) are slightly more vulnerable to contamination, but the truth is that any salad that has not been prepared and washed yourself runs the risk of listeriosis contamination. The soil and water are where Listeria monocytogenes is present, and it is one of the few types of bacteria that thrive in cold conditions, even under cooling. This is NOT to say that you will get sick eating a salad at McDonald's or anywhere else. Your chances of having a dietary disease are no greater than the millions of people who eat a salad from there every day. However, it is the potential damage that listeria can do to an unborn baby in pregnancy that feeds caution. All commercial restaurants including McDonald's have strict food hygiene practices and listeria outbreaks are rare, but have occurred in the past. When sprouts are produced, you may sometimes be out of control of the restaurant. Some outbreaks are caused by problems after the food supply chain when chosen, prepaid, washed and packaged food. For example, the apple slice bags sold in some branches of McDonald and Burger King were 100% safe, order your burgers, sandwiches and non-lettuce or salad wraps and also in the fruit or vegetable bags. Can I have McDonald's McFlurries, Milkshakes or Ice Cream Whilst pregnant? This should be the most popular section of the McDonald menu for pregnant women, judging by the number of times you ask. It is the most common cause of confusion, too, because it is not just a straight answer. Let me start by saying that McDonald's smoothies, McFlurries and ice cream products (including Sundaes) are made with pasteurized milk and cream, universally, across the board. That is the first concern out of the way – dairy is not raw and the ingredients are therefore safe for pregnant women. The gray area is found in the fact that they are not just the ingredients but the preparation you need to take a look when ordering the soft serve ice cream, a smoothie or a McFlurry (all are made in similar ways, sometimes in the same machine). The same happens with the ice machine if you are asking for a drink of frappe or ice. The machines used to prepare these items should be cleaned thoroughly and often to be safe, as the listeria thrives in cold and dark environments such as ice cream or smoothing machines. I have written more about this in detail in this article about . It includes a recipe to make your own Mcflurry pregnancy insurance, too! What all this is reduced is the common sense and its own risk threshold. If a place doesn't look clean or notice anything unhealthy, then don't eat or drink there. However, it is worth mentioning that McDonald's – and many other chains – take cleanliness and sanitation very seriously. Ultimately, however, the cleaning of the machine that makes your milk shake, McFlurry, sweat ice cream or soft service is out of control. You are relying on good management and individual staff members to make it right. Mcdonald desserts in pregnancy Apart from the McFlurries and Sundaes mentioned above, there are other desserts that ask me in the McDonald menu. Below are the most common ones: Drinks and coffees in Mcdonald's during pregnancy It is not just soft service ice cream, smoothies or McFlurries (see above) that are made in machines that can be susceptible to the list. Caution should also be exercised when requesting drinks. Common drinks are served in Mcdonald's include: Three "cocos" by McDonald can find useful when you are pregnant One of my oldest friends worked at McDonald's for a long time and used to tell me advice and advice to get a better experience. Some of them also apply to pregnant women. In conclusion, there is, in theory, a large selection of items that are safe for pregnant women to eat at McDonald's. If it is an occasional craving, a treatment or the only thing you can keep down, then I hope this menu guide will help. Remember, junk food should be consumed spatically in pregnancy, as it is high in fat, sugar and is calories-dense instead of nutrient-dense. That's not to say that you should feel guilty about eating it, as long as it's moderate. Gina is the owner and founder of Pregnancy Food Checker.
